SU is committed to providing a safe and child-friendly environment in any program, event or activity conducted in its name. We’ve policies for:
Safe Ministry
SU is committed to the physical, emotional and spiritual welfare and safety of people, particularly within our areas of activity, and zero tolerance for any form of child abuse.
Safe Working with Children, Youth and Vulnerable People
SU is committed to providing a safe and child-friendly environment in any program, event or activity conducted in its name and adopts operational policies and procedures for the safe working with children, youth and vulnerable people participating in such.
Our safe practices cover:
• volunteer screening & training;
• accountability and performance;
• ready set go procedures;
• code of conduct;
• media representation;
• incident reporting;
• record keeping; and
• management review and audit.
Scripture Union NSW also verifies Working with Children Checks (WWCC) as a requirement for anyone who volunteers in child-related work. It involves a National Police Check (criminal history record check) and a review of reportable workplace misconduct.
Work, Health & Safety
In accordance with work health & safety legislation, SU undertakes to do all we reasonably can to ensure the health & safety of its employees, volunteers, contractors and those attending programs, activities and events held in its name.
Ready, Set, Go
In accordance with, SU is committed to ensuring that the physical, emotional and spiritual welfare and safety of all people across all our ministry areas are a high priority.
Our Ready, Set, Go process is designed to ensure that all of our ministries are conducted in a way that keeps the health, safety and wellbeing of all those in attendance our highest priority.

Safe Ministry Training
It is a requirement that all volunteers have current SUNSW Board Approved Safe Ministry Training.
As of December 2023, the Board Approved Safe Ministry Providers are as follows:-
- Anglican Diocese of Sydney – Safe Ministry Training – Safe Ministry Essentials and/or Refresher
- Anglican Diocese of Armidale – Safe Ministry Training – Safe Ministry Essentials and/or Refresher
- Anglican Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn – Safe Ministry Training – Safe Ministry Essentials and/or Refresher
- Australian Christian Churches – Creating Safer Communities
- Baptist Church – Creating Safe Spaces (must complete both online and face to face)
- Childsafe – Keeping Children and Young People Safe – Module 1 National Principles
- Safe Ministry Check Non-denominational (preferred by SUNSW insurer – ANSVAR) – (Level 2 for Volunteers and Level 3 for Directors – If your church is registered with SMC, ask your Safe Ministry Coordinator for access)
- Office of Children’s Guardian – Child Safe eLearning – Keeping children safe in organisations (for all sectors) – Modules 1-9
- Presbyterian Church – Breaking the Silence, Jericho Road – Foundation Training
- Salvation Army – Safe Guarding – Foundation & Advanced Training
- Seventh Day Adventist – Adsafe Safer Churches Awareness Training
- Uniting Church for NSW & ACT – Safe Church Training
