How SU supporters are choosing to show and share the love of God in their lives.
– Jasmine
Earlier this year, 15 year old Jasmine contacted SU asking to purchase our ISCF Lunchbox resource for a lunch-time group she had just started at Wagga Wagga High School.
Jasmine had approached her school principal and gained permission to use a room once a week. By the time we’d spoken to Jasmine, she had already held her first meeting with 11 students!
SU Regional Coordinator for Central and Far West NSW, Andrew Parkinson, contacted Jasmine to help her register, arranging a visit to connect her to free resources and guidance on compliance issues such as permission notes.
Jasmine says, “I’d like to see the lunchtime group continue once I leave the school, and I think it’s good for the school to know it’s an organised event.”
Andrew is now looking at running a ‘Train & Plan’ (leadership training for ISCF leaders) in Wagga Wagga for Jasmine and any other interested student leaders.
SU is committed to building up Christian leaders all over NSW. The SU Light Appeal channels your support into places where there is a high density of local Christians but a low percentage
– Bryan and Sue Solomon
Considering the generosity of the friends and family who would be attending their wedding, Bryan and Sue Solomon chose to donate the proceeds of their wishing well to SU, after seeking God’s leading about which organisation to support.
Bryan says, “My heart was open to SU after returning from a mission trip with them to Vanuatu.” It was a memorable experience for Bryan, seeing first-hand the results of Cyclone Pam and the needs of the people there.
SU NSW has partnered with SU Vanuatu since 2004, initially redeveloping the camp site. For the past 12 years, SU has developed its Schoolies in Vanuatu program, which aims to give participants rest and fun, but also a deeper experience as they consider how they are going to live differently for God now.
The school leavers experience the beauty of Vanuatu culture while growing in their understanding of cross-cultural mission work. Through serving at a local school, leading games and sharing their testimonies, they develop their servant heart for a world in need.
– Jess Murray
“I always have a large birthday party every year, and a lot of the time I end up with stuff I just don’t need. I’ve raised funds for my parties in the past, but this year I decided SU should be the recipients of the money.”
Jess and her family have been heavily involved with Scripture Union. Jess’ mum has been serving at SUFM (formerly known as Beach Mission) for over 20 years, and as a family they’ve been serving at Canton Beach SUFM in Toukley for 14 years.
“All this was possible through the great work of Scripture Union, which inspired my guests to be generous enough to raise almost five hundred dollars.”
Jess believes a contribution like this can make a huge difference for an organisation like Scripture Union. “It is my hope that this money will be used to share the gospel with those who need to hear it.“
Because of generous supporters like Jess, SU is able to do whatever it takes to bring the gospel to children wherever they are. See pages 6-7 to read about
