(b) COVID19 Safe Plan
To adhere to NSW Government guidelines, Scripture Union NSW has taken the following steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Campers and volunteers.
- All participants are encouraged to complete a Rapid Antigen Test, either at home or upon arrival. Anyone who is a close or household contact will be not be able to attend camp.
- All participants' health will be monitored throughout camp.
- If a participant develops any COVID-19 like symptoms while on camp, participants will be isolated and asked to complete a Rapid Antigen Test. If positive, Parents/Carers will be contacted to collect their children.
- Masks will be recommended during inside activities, with the exception of eating times.
- SUNSW will keep records for all participants to enable contact tracing in the event of a participant having a positive test within 7 days of camp.
- In the event of the camp needing to be cancelled due to COVID19 all participants will receive a full refund
(b) I'm thinking about coming on camp but I'm not sure if I can keep up as I don't ride my bike much. Will the pace be too fast for me?
We average about 5-10km per hour which isn't very fast and we make sure that everyone gets all the rest they need. If you have average fitness you will be fine. We take breaks every 5 to 7km and sometimes we hold the faster riders back so that you won't feel like you're coming last!
(c) I do a lot of riding and other sports and am really fit. Will I be bored?
If you are a super-fit cyclist, have no fear, your need for speed will be satisfied! No one has ever gone home from Bike Camp saying we rode too slow or not far enough. Sometimes we take the faster riders on a detour so that they cover more kilometres and more challenging terrain. Sometimes we give the slower riders a big head start and the faster riders have to try and catch up before the end of the section. Usually by the end of camp everyone feels they have had plenty of time on their bike.
(d) What to bring
- Your bike!
- A helmet - you are required by law to wear a helmet.
- A water bottle preferably fitted to your bike - the 1-litre bottle is best.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and a cap.
- Wet weather gear - something you can ride in.
- Pillow and warm sleeping bag - extra blankets if you wish.
- Warm clothes for the evenings and to sleep in - it will be very cold at night.
- Lots of socks and underwear.
- Clothes to ride in: Shorts and T-shirts - bright colours are good for visibility.
- Toiletries.
- A towel.
- A spare inner tube that fits your tyres.
- A back pack to use as a day pack - you won't have access to your main luggage during the day.
(e) Not essential, but nice to have
The following things are not essential but good to have:
- A tent (or swag) or a friend with a tent to share with - let us know if you need a tent and we can organise something
- A torch and batteries
- Cycling gloves
- A puncture repair kit
- A roll mat or thermarest
- Your bible
- A pen (and note book)
- An instrument if you play one
(f) What NOT to bring
The following items should not be brought on camp:
- Smart Phones - all phones brought on camp will be collected and safely stored by the leaders and only accessible for emergency use - please note we will be out of mobile range for most of the camp but carry a satellite phone in case of emergency
- Ipods, radios or electronic games
- Your best threads - don't bring any clothes that you wouldn't want to get dirty
- Anything expensive or fragile e.g. expensive camera
- Pocket knives or any other weapons
(g) What is the best type of bike for camp?
You don't need anything fancy, but you will need a mountain bike with gears and good working brakes! You will not be able to make the distance on a BMX or a three-speed cruiser. This is a cycle camp and we cover a lot of kilometres. The ideal bike for Bike Camp is a light weight 21-speed mountain bike or hybrid with a comfy seat. Whilst camp will include some off-road sections such as fire trails and MTB single-track a mountain with suspension is not essential.
(h) I don't have a bike but I still really want to come on camp. Can you help?
Absolutely! Having said that there are back yards and garages all over Australia with bikes in them that are not being used! Try asking a neighbour or school friend if you can borrow their bike. If you have no luck with friends or neighbours, you can hire a bike from some bike shops. Alternatively, contact the camp directors as we may be able to arrange a bike that we can lend to the right size people if you ask nicely!
(i) Do I need cycling nicks to ride in?
Your butt will be grateful for the extra padding but you don't have to have cycling nicks. Some of us just ride in shorts and a T shirt. Cycling gloves, whilst not essential are strongly recommended. Make sure all your clothes are comfortable for riding. A tip from us: jeans are not comfortable riding gear!
(j) Do I need to bring any tools for my bike?
You need to bring one spare inner tube that fits your bike. Other than that, we carry all the gear we need for minor repairs. It is handy to have a pump and puncture repair kit on your bike but not essential.
(k) I don't have a tent, is that OK?
No problem. If you have a tent of your own then bring it but if you don't, we have some extra tents or you can share with someone who does have a tent. Guys and girls pitch their tents separately and their areas are out of bounds to each other. If you have a swag you can bring it and sleep in that.
(l) Can I invite my friends?
Yes, just tell them to register online or contact the Camp Director for any further information.
(m) I would like to come on camp but I'll be on my own. Do I have to bring a friend?
Absolutely not. Many of the kids on camp come on their own and make friends on day one. Some people bring a friend with them but we're all friends by the end of camp. There have been friendships formed on Bike Camp that have lasted for decades!
(n) What is the Christian component of the Camps?
Each day of camp features a short, age-appropriate Bible presentation and small group time for campers to talk about issues in greater depth and ask questions about God, life and everything.
(o) Can you take care of my child's special medical requirements?
Part of the camper registration process is to inform us of any medical conditions or requirements your child might have that could impact their time at camp. Our First Aid officers are equipped to administer medication as stipulated by you at registration. If the camp has any questions regarding the medical requirements they will contact you prior to the camp beginning.
(p) My parents want to visit me during the camp, is this okay?
This is your week away and we do not recommend that your parents pay you a visit. It kind of changes the mood of camp if we have parents dropping in. It is also a danger to the cyclists on the road to have extra cars following them.
(q) How are medical incidents dealt with on camp?
All SUNSW Camps have Senior First Aid qualified leaders who will deliver first-response treatment in the event of an injury or illness. A decision is then made about whether further medical attention is needed and if the camper needs to visit a medical centre or hospital. Scripture Union NSW or the Camp Director will contact the emergency contact parent as soon as possible if outside medical attention is required and if there are any major incidents that occur.
(r) Who looks after the campers?
A team of energetic, committed, Christian Leaders look after the campers throughout camp. All leaders are reference-checked, trained in child protection procedures and have completed government child protection requirements. In addition to adult leaders, a number of Camps involve Junior Leaders who will get right alongside your child throughout the week.
(s) Will it be safe?
SU NSW Camps and their volunteers hold a strong commitment to the well-being of everyone who participates in our camps. We operate under Scripture Union guidelines and strive to stay in line with and even ahead of the standards that are in place for the camping industry.

What to Bring
Camping gear

• Airbed, foam mattress or similar
• Plate, Bowl, plastic cup, knife, fork, spoon, and a tea towel. Mug for hot drinks if required. (And a bag to keep this in)
• Torch
For the water
It was decided in past years that we would like campers to dress reasonably modestly in consideration for each other, so please do not bring clothes that you would consider too revealing. Also for many reasons it is essential to bring a swimming shirt to wear.
• Swimming gear (including your swim shirt!), HAT, SUNSCREEN (sunscreen is always available and with 100 odd people applying it it’s hard to forget. But if you don’t do it you’ll fry!)
• Walking shoes and thongs (water shoes or light sneakers are good for in the water as the bottom of the dam is dodgy)
• Bring some old clothes, you might want to look nice in the evenings but remember the dam’s muddy so be practical.
• Bath & beach towels
• A DRINK BOTTLE
The normal stuff
• Casual clothes
• Long pants & a jumper (surprisingly it can get cold!!)
• P.Js.
• Toiletries
• Bible and a pen
• Sometimes it rains… if you don’t want to be wet, you may want a rain coat.
**PLEASE LABEL ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is important that all campers stay with the group unless permission is given by the leaders for some exceptional circumstance. We plan to run a Craft Day Camp once a term and therefore hope to build relationships with the kids and their families over the year. The day will still include lots of fun crafts, games and food!
Who can fill out an online registration form?
Parents, Legal Guardians or Caseworkers may complete the full registration process for their child or children. Campers aged 18 or older may complete the registration themselves. Friends (e.g. the parent of another camper) or carers without legal guardianship may partially complete a registration (with or without payment) which the guardian must complete to authorise the booking, provide personal medical information and secure the place.
Who looks after the campers?
A team of energetic, committed, Christian Leaders look after the campers throughout camp. All leaders are reference-checked, trained in child protection procedures and have completed government child protection requirements. In addition to adult leaders, a number of Camps involve Junior Leaders who will get right alongside your child throughout the week.

A team of energetic, craft-enthusiasts who are committed Christian leaders will look after the kids through the day. All leaders are reference-checked, trained in child protection procedures and have completed government child protection requirements.
Why do camp prices vary?
Each camp program is unique and as a result prices vary according to the activities included, duration, numbers of participants, accommodation type and associated costs. Be assured that at all times we seek to provide you with the best quality programs at the lowest possible prices.
Will it be safe?
SU NSW Camps and their volunteers hold a strong commitment to the well-being of everyone who participates in our camps. We operate under Scripture Union guidelines and strive to stay in line with and even ahead of the standards that are in place for the camping industry.
Will my child need to be supervised while the online program is running?
Parents/Guardians do not need supervise their child during the online program but we require a responsible adult to be at home while the program is running to be able to support your child if there are technical difficulties, ensure they are safe and the space they are participating in is safe. Leaders will brief participants before each activity to ensure the space they are doing the activity is safe and free of obstacles eg space for dancing/exercises.
Will the online program sessions be recorded?
Yes some session may be recorded for safety, care and review purposes. This will only be used by SU.
Will there be any craft workshops where we can learn new skills or be taught a craft project?
We will be running some simple craft projects for all participants to learn and enjoy. We encourage you to also share your craft skills on the weekend.

Worthy Partners – Who is this camp for?
The camp is appropriate for adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities or neurological conditions such as autism. The camp program is not designed for adults with sever to profound intellectual disabilities.
This camp is also for adults with a physical disability who require low levels of personal care. This means they would not need supports such as slings and hoists, or a lot of help feeding, bathing, toileting. If an applicant requires such assistance, then an assessment will be made as to whether we are able to accomodate them at this camp.
There will be a helper with a current Senior First Aid Certificate and/or a Registered Nurse.
Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre is wheelchair accessible but there may be a limit to the number of wheelchairs that can be accommodated.
Caregivers dropping their campers at the camp may want to spend the weekend in Canberra, or could be back in Sydney before 10pm.
If an applicant has a recent history of violence, or significant challenging behaviours, then a risk assessment will be conducted by camp directors to see if they are likely to endanger themselves or others on camp.
If any applicants are not able to be accommodated, we will inform them or their support person. We will arrange a refund of any camp fees that have been paid.
If you have any questions as to whether Worthy Partners Camp is suitable for you or the person you are supporting, please contact us by emailing: [email protected], or phoning Joe Pennington, 0423 149 486.
